I am hoping to one day acquire a set of scenes and settings off of eBay. I would like to know a little more about them.

Are they laminated or are they just plain cardboard? Are they sturdy?

Why the heck do Felicity's cost so much and some of the other AG dolls' go for a much more reasonable price? What was the original price for a package of scenes and settings?

Are they easily stored?

Do you think Nellie will soon have her own scenes and settings?

Sorry for so many questions but I really can't see spending almost $100 on something that's not worth the money.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">IMO, I think it is because Felicity's are nicer, and in truth, those who collect for Felicity use her more for displays and less for playing. Also, most of Felicity's items go for a higher price. I think they originally went for $55 (it might have been $45, I can't find the '97 catalogue right now)

Are they easily stored?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">They are large, but they can be folded and closed and stored under a bed, against a wall, in the back of a closet, etc.

Do you think Nellie will soon have her own scenes and settings?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, they were a one-time, limited edition item from 1997. So Josefina, Kit, and Kaya don't have them either.

IMO, having one set is worth the money if you like displaying your dolls. It really brings them to life. I have Kirsten's and I love them. I have debated getting others. I live in a Colonial House right now, so the wallpaper makes a good bakground for Lissie so I didn't get hers. I'm thinking of getting Molly's though, its such a cute time period. Also I need an outdoor summer scene! Lissies, Addys or Mollys would work great, also Addy and Molly have classroom settings.

They are light-weight foamboard overlaid with the laminated scenes. They are quite sturdy and stand up great, but can get dented fairly easily, especially along the edges. Kind of like shelf wear on a book.

I haven't a clue why Felicity's cost so much, except that they are really lovely. Kirsten's tend to run a bit higher too (probably for the same reason)? They are my favorites; the scenes are just lovely and very versatile (like the plantation or woods scenes). I think Sam's scenes are so reasonable for the same reason most of her retired stuff is- she is the most popular doll, so there's lots of her stuff floating around on ebay. I think the scenes and settings sold for $55, but I might be a bit off.

Are they easily stored?

I think so. I just keep my cardboard boxes they came in (huge flat ones, like what would hold a painting) and stack them upright in the closet if they aren't being used. This would also be an easy one to store under a bed. But I'd store them in boxes, because the edges and corners dent too easily otherwise.

Do you think Nellie will soon have her own scenes and settings?

Unfortunately, no. They stopped making them after Addy's and retired them soon after. It makes me sad, because I would have loved to have one for Josefina.

The scenes and setting were $55.00. They are really wonderful. The glossy pictures are pasted onto foam board, so it's more sturdy than just cardboard, but the sides can get dinged up. They have been retired for a long time now, and since Josefina, Kit and Kaya have been released since they were retired and they didn't get them, I'm reasonably sure Nellie won't either. For Nellie, it really doesn't matter, since Samantha's scenes would work in most cases for Nellie. The new paper dolls come with a small, folded background with scenes on both sides. The pictures are very much like in the old scenes and settings, and give a little idea of what scenes and settings for the newer dolls would have been like. If they make Nellie paper dolls, it will be interesting to see what 2 scenes come with her dolls-maybe the orphanage and the Ryland's yard.
As far as Felicity's being so expensive, what of hers isn't? I think they just command higher prices because her things are viewed as more collectible and therefor valuable. The books are large, but can be stored easily under a bed.

If you're patient, you can find these for great deals. I just got Addy's for around $45, but I've seen hers go as low as $18. I've seen Sam's go for as low as $25. One tip: if the seller has high shipping, ask if they'll ship via media mail. That's how I've had mine shipped and then it's only about $6 to ship. A lot of times, sellers just don't know they can do that, and then you can afford to bid more on the item rather than paying $15-20 shipping.

Thank you to all three of you for the wonderful descriptions of the scenes and settings. From all accounts, it sounds like a nice addition to a collection. I'm hoping that once the holidays are through perhaps the demand for these will taper off and I can get them for around $60.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to give me such fantastic feedback. ☺

It is fairly common to see the scenes and settings go for less because the handle or snap is broken. I got Addy's for $18 and Sam's for $25 because they had some minor external damage.

If you check my link in the bottom of my signature, you should be able to get a glimpse of Felicity's scenes and settings; I posed Felicity in front of them.

I have shipped a couple of these in the past, and I can tell you that one of the reasons that shipping can be high, even when shipping by Media Mail, is that it's so hard to find a box big enough and close enough to the right shape, to ship it in, and then you have to pay quite a bit of money just for the box. Even when I have the box that they come in, I don't like to ship that box "naked", because there is no space for padding between that box and the "Scenes & Settings". If you ship it in that box alone, you run a high risk of something puncturing that box in transit, and ruining the "Scenes & Settings" inside. So I always ship it in another box, in addition to the one that they come in.
